We're still not sure if Don Cheadle has actually taken the mantle of The Iron Patriot, or whether the United States just gave War Machine a new paint job in Iron Man 3. Since Marvel Studios doesn't have the movie rights to Norman Osborn, the original wearer of the Iron Patriot armor, we suppose it doesn't really matter. In any case, Cheadle looks mighty flashy in his new duds, so now he gets his own character poster promoting the first post-Avengers superhero movie from Marvel, starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Sir Ben Kingsley and this handsome gentleman wearing the stars and stripes.
In the sequel, Tony Stark (Downey Jr.) faces off against the Mandarin (Kingsley) whilst battling the demons left over from the alien invasion in New York City last summer. Cheadle, who plays Stark's best friend James Rhodes, took on the mantle of War Machine in 2010's Iron Man 2, raised eyebrows as the bearer of new armor in the third feature, since he looks uncannily like a Marvel Comics character who only pretended to be the patriotic protector of America as a way to hide his true, sinister motivations. Somehow, we just don't think that Rhodes has it in him to turn on the U.S., but we'll find out when Iron Man 3 hits theaters on May 3 (U.S.), April 24 (Aus) and April 26 (U.K.).
