Near the end of January, actor Nick Gomez announced via his twitter feed that he had landed a recurring part on “Dexter” Season 8. And while Gomez didn’t initially reveal whom he was playing, the details have now come out.

According to TVLine, Gomez will portray Javier Guzman, a hitman known as “El Sapo” who will go up against Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) when she gets between him and his latest target.

Of course, any threat to Deb means that Dexter (Michael C. Hall) will likely get involved as well. But since Gomez’s guest run on the series is on a recurring basis, it probably means that “El Sapo” won’t immediately end up on Dexter’s table.

Gomez recently made a guest appearance on “The Walking Dead” as a violent inmate named Tomas in addition to his previous stints on “Breakout Kings,” “Treme” and “Wendy.”

Other new additions to the “Dexter” cast include Sean Patrick Flanery as a former cop turned, P.I., Jacob Elroy and Charlotte Rampling as criminal profiler, Dr. Evelyn Vogel. Aimee Garcia — who portrays Jamie Batista, the nanny of Dexter’s son and Angel’s younger sister — was recently promoted to series regular for the eighth and potentially final season of the series.

“Dexter” returns to Showtime on Sunday, June 30.
