Steve Rogers is getting an all-new female co-star in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, in the form of "Revenge's" Emily VanCamp, but what about his first love? Hayley Atwell played Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, but Cap left her and the rest of the 1940s behind the film's cliffhanger, which sent him all the way to the present day thanks to an accidental cryogenic freeze. Will Captain America be able to move on completely, or will Sharon Carter still be a presence in the hero's life, in some way, shape or form? Well, today we have our answer, and it comes courtesy of… Stanely Tucci?

Collider asked Tucci, who played Dr. Abraham Eskine in the first Captain America, about whether Marvel Studios has asked him to appear in the upcoming sequel. His response? "No, they haven’t, unfortunately.  I’m really sad.  I know that Hayley is going back to do a flashback scene, but I have not been asked."

That's the first we've heard of Hayley Atwell appearing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so perhaps her cameo was meant to be a surprise. Then again, if it's just a flashback, we can't imagine that her appearance is, by itself, an important plot point. Heck, the odds of this sequel going by without a single flashback are nearly infinitesimal, since the plot centers around the return of "Bucky" Barnes, Captain America's best friend from World War II, as the title villain. So it stands to reason that Sharon Carter, and perhaps even several other members of the original cast, would show up as well, if only briefly.

CraveOnline asked Hayley Atwell what Peggy Carter was up to in the years following Captain America's disappearance, in particular if she actually showed up at the Stork Club where she promised to meet the hero at the end of the film, despite his then-apparently imminent demise. She thought it out and said, "I like to think that she did. I hope that she didn’t wait for too long, because she’d still be there right now, probably in her 80’s, drunk as a skunk, going [in a really raspy voice] “He never showed up…!” Teeth falling out, hair gone grey, can you imagine? Still in the red dress, that is, like, disheveled and falling off her… And she’s clearly become some alcoholic who’s always at the Stork Club. She’s probably like a lounge singer there singing songs about her first love. I’d like to think that’s what happens to her, actually." (She laughed throughout that entire exchange.)

Somehow, we doubt that's what she'll be up to in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but who knows? Maybe they'll "go there."
