Singer was initially vague about Dinklage's casting, proudly announcing, "Officially like to welcome #PeterDinklage from #GameOfThrones to #XMEN #DaysOfFuturePast Very very excited!" Initially speculation revolved around the possibility that he might be playing Puck, an Alpha Flight character with superhuman acrobatic abilities. But in the hours that followed, Variety updated the story, declaring that Dinklage - whose filmography also includes the award-winning film The Station Agent - will play "the main antagonist."
X-Men: Days of Future Past is based on the Chris Claremont/John Byrne comic book storyline, about Kitty Pryde traveling back in time to prevent a dystopian future where mutants have been hunted to near extinction. That story's main antagonist was the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, the cinematic version of which has been featured in all the X-Men movies to date, except X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That doesn't clear up much in regards to Dinklage's identity. He could be one of the main proponents of "The Mutant Control Act" in the film's alternate future, or perhaps one of the mutants responsible for the assassination that sets those events into motion. The members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants that appeared in the original story - including Mystique, The Blob and Pyro - have for the most part been introduced in the X-Men films before.
Sugar-Man? Is Sugar-Man a possibility? Or perhaps another familiar character whose physical appearance is inconsequential? Peter Dinklage has the presence necessary to pull of an excellent Apocalypse or Mr. Sinister, doesn't he?
We look forward to finding out, and we'd sure as hell love to hear your theories.
