Last fall, Fox and the CW put forth two separate projects that will update Washington Irving's “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” as a modern day TV series. But it appears that Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” has the early lead.

Deadline is reporting that Orlando Jones and Katia Winter have both been cast in Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow;” which was co-created by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the writing team behind “Fringe,” Star Trek and The Transformers.

This version of “Sleepy Hollow” will follow Ichabod Crane as he teams up with the female sheriff of Sleepy Hollow as they attempt to solve bizarre mysteries in a town on the front lines of the battle between good and evil.

Jones will portray, Lt. Frank Williams; who is described as a “serious and sternly professional detective” that is called upon to investigate a double homicide in Sleepy Hollow. Winter will play Ichabod’s wife, Katrina…  “a nurse with the 37th Regiment in the Revolutionary War;” which may limit her appearances to flashbacks. And apparantly Icahabod himself will somehow be transported to the present.

Prior to this, Jones was one of the first cast members of Fox’s “MADtv,” with appearances on “Everybody Hates Chris,” “New Amsterdam,” “House,” “Necessary Roughness,” “Ghost Whisperer” and “Men in Trees.” Jones has also starred in several films, including Seconds Apart (pictured above), Primeval, Evolution, Office Space, The Replacements, Bedazzled and The Time Machine.

Winter appeared in the most recent season of “Dexter” as a troubled stripper named Nadia, in addition to her previous roles in “NCIS,” Happy & Bleeding and Arena.

The “Sleepy Hollow” pilot at Fox will be helmed by Len Wiseman, the director of Underworld. It is expected to begin production soon.
