On FX, the Cold War will last for at least another year.

Earlier today, FX officially ordered a second season of “The Americans;” which will once again get 13 new episodes next year. Presumably, “The Americans” Season 2 will premiere in January 2014.

In a brief statement, FX President John Landgraf wrote “‘The Americans’ has quickly established itself as a key part FX’s acclaimed drama line-up. Executive producers Joe Weisberg, Joel Fields and Graham Yost and their collaborators are telling riveting and deeply emotional stories and the performances of Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Noah Emmerich and the entire cast are simply outstanding. The show is truly worthy of its widespread critical acclaim and we are confident that its quality will continue to yield a robust and passionate audience.”

“The Americans” debuted strongly on FX, with 3.22 million viewers for the initial broadcast of the pilot episode. Subsequent episodes have significantly dropped in live viewers, but “The Americans” is pulling in strong Live +3 and Live +7 numbers that may help the series find a larger audience in the long term.

New episodes of “The Americans” air Wednesday nights on FX, with the first season finale set for Wednesday, May 1.
