One of the more surprising reveals at Sony’s PS4 was the announcement of InFamous: Second Son from developer Sucker Punch. Okay, maybe a new InFamous game isn’t that surprising at all, but the fact that it will star a new lead character is a bit of a shocker.
Over at the PlayStation blog today, Sucker Punch’s Brian Fleming has detailed a little background on our mysterious new lead, Delsin Rowe. According to Fleming, Delsin is a “24 year old who is absolutely convinced he’s destined for greatness; though so far that greatness has managed to elude him.” Shortly after saving a bunch of people from a burning bus wreck, Delsin discovers he can manipulate, direct and transform into smoke. How this happened is a mystery that players will solve over the course of InFamous: Second Son.
Fleming also mentions InFamous: Second Son takes place seven years after the end of InFamous 2 and the whole Cole situation that tore apart Empire City and New Marais. In this not-to-distant future, the Department of Unified Protection (DUP) immediately picks up anyone that shows signs of being a “bio-terrorist.” And since Delsin has a history of butting heads with authority figures, DUP will play a key role in Second Son.
The game will take place in Seattle and will feature the tried-and-true gameplay we’ve come to expect from the InFamous series with a few surprises, according to Fleming. The title’s debut trailer (shown above), which premiered at Sony’s PS4 event, was supposedly crafted using Second Son’s in-game engine.
