At the end of “Supernatural” Season 6, the angel Castiel (Misha Collins) ascended to Godhood right before Collins was demoted to a recurring guest star. Consequently, Castiel was quickly depowered when the show returned and used only sparingly during the seventh and eighth seasons.

However, that’s going to change in a big way when “Supernatural” Season 9 arrives.

According to TVLine , Collins has once again been promoted to a series regular on “Supernatural” for the ninth season. Additionally, Collins is slated to direct an episode in the new season.

Collins joined “Supernatural” during the fourth season and he was originally elevated to series regular for the fifth and sixth seasons. Prior to his “Supernatural” stint, Collins appeared in “24,” “Charmed,” “NYPD Blue,” “Seven Days,” “NCIS” and “CSI.” More recently, Collins starred in “Divine: The Series” and guest starred on “Ringer.”

“Supernatural” Season 8 is currently in progress on the CW on Wednesday nights. The ninth season will premiere in Fall 2013.
