Through the first two seasons of “American Horror Story,” Jessica Lange’s characters have gone up against just about every cast member on the show. Now, Lange has a new opponent to spar with on screen.
TVLine is reporting that Oscar winner Kathy Bates has signed on for “American Horror Story” Season 3 in a major role. While story details about the new season are scarce, it will once again reset the actors as different characters in a new backdrop of terror.
Bates’ character is described only as the best friend of Lange’s new character, but the report notes that both women become bitter enemies after a falling out.
Perhaps best known for her Academy Award winning turn in Misery, Bates has had a significant presence on television in the past few years. Bates recurred on “The Office,” guest starred on “Two and a Half Men” and starred in two seasons of NBC’s “Harry’s Law.” Bates has also appeared in several films, including Fried Green Tomatoes, Dolores Claiborne, The Late Shift and About Schmidt.
Bates is the first new cast member for “American Horror Story” Season 3, joining returning players Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson and Frances Conroy.
“American Horror Story” is expected to return to FX in October.
