Hours after a medical ruling that will keep Alexander Gustafsson from fighting Saturday night, the UFC announced Ilir Latifi will replace Gustafsson in the fight against Gergard Mousasi for UFC on Fuel TV 9. The Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation Medical Committee says the cut on Gustafsson's face is too severe for him to compete.
Crave's Sherdog site again got the scoop on this story from UFC President Dana White, who announced the 29-year old Latifi will fight Mousasi instead.
Latifi, 29, rides a three-fight winning streak into his short-notice confrontation with Mousasi. The Swede went a perfect 3-0 last year, notching back-to-back wins under the United Glory banner before outpointing World Extreme Cagefighting vet Jorge Oliveira on Oct. 6 at Superior Challenge 6.
Latifi, known in the octagon as "The Sledgehammer," dropped five of his seven opponents inside the distance during his almost 5 year career.
