Remember that cool looking XCOM shooter from a few years back? The one we kind of gushed over following its debut at E3 back in 2010? Well, it kind of disappeared a long while ago and was overshadowed by the more traditional XCOM experience that Firaxis Games developed, called XCOM: Enemy Unknown. We really didn’t know what exactly had happened to 2K Marin’s shooter… until now.
2K Games and 2K Marin have finally let us in on what’s happening with the title, which has since been rebranded as The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. This new vision for the XCOM shooter will launch on August 20, 2013 in North America ( August 23 internationally), for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
As the official press release points out, The Bureau will take place in 1962 at the height of the Cold War. The game tells the origin story of the XCOM organization and their first encounter with an alien force. You’ll play as special agent William Carter, who leads a team of agents in a quest to protect the world while keeping the truth hidden from the general public.
Interestingly, The Bureau moves the camera back to a third-person perspective instead of how the game originally looked with a first-person view. And much like Firaxis’ XCOM: Enemy Unknown, The Bureau features perma-death for your squadmates, so choose your actions and commands carefully.
