SQUIB: a : a short humorous or satiric writing or speech; b : a short news item. (Merriam-Webster)

This Tech Squib tells your iPad to stand up and make itself useful with a stern, "Get a job, you Cupertino hippie."

The Belkin Thunderstorm transforms your iPad into a little portable home theater system. The tablet fits into the folding speaker mount – a smooth, plastic enclosure that provides grip and protection for the iPad when not in use. Once in the Thunderstorm, the iPad's in-built speakers are bypassed for more powerful, dynamic audio units built into the Belkin device. Those speakers make the iPad into a decent small home theater system – providing significantly better sound for movies, video games, YouTube clips and whatever else you watch on that tablet.

The technology behind the Thunderstorm is fairly ambitious as Belkin could've simply made this case into a single function speaker connection. But, the device comes with its own app that manages three separate sound arrangements to manage the sound according to the media type played, size of the room, etc.

I tried the unit and its related app extensively, and it's a solid add-on for the iPad that does put out genuinely improved sound. It's up to you if it's worth the $250 price tag. It all depends on how much you use your iPad for home entertainment. If that tablet is a prime device in your house, rest assured the Thunderstorm brings the rain.
