Trekkies rejoice! The new film "Star Trek Into Darkness" opens in theatres across Canada today.

The latest project from director J.J. Abrams is gearing up to be the movie of the summer. It stars Chris Pine ("People Like Us") as Kirk, Zachary Quinto ("American Horror Story") as Spock, and hottie Zoe Saldana ("The Words," "Colombiana"). When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find that an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving the world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As the characters are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

According to Global News' writer John R. Kennedy, the reviews are mixed: "Graeme McMillan of Wired called the sequel 'uneven and circuitous where the previous movie was focused and fast-moving'… Writing in The Fresno Bee, critic Rick Bentley gushed about the latest Star Trek, calling it 'the best work since Gene Roddenberry brought the franchise to life in the 1960s.'"
