It was just over a year ago that ABC and Marvel announced “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.;” which will mark Joss Whedon’s long awaited return to television. And after months of anticipation, S.H.I.E.L.D. Day has finally arrived.
Tonight, ABC will introduce some new faces to the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. Veteran Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); rising star, Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton); weapons design specialist Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); life sciences expert Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and the rebellious hacker known as Skye (Chloe Bennet), who finds herself drawn into S.H.I.E.L.D.’s orbit.
And of course, there’s Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), seemingly back from the dead. But even he doesn’t quite know how that happened.
During last night’s NFL Countdown, ESPN ran an extended trailer for “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” that showed more than just the pilot footage we’ve been watching all summer. There are several intriguing glimpses of the team in action and even some gravity defying moments courtesy of Dr. Franklin Hall (Ian Hart), who is better known to comic fans as the supervillain Graviton.
As for the guys in red masks? The early theory is that they’re members of Ultimatum, a terrorist organization out to destroy all national borders in a perverse way to unify the planet.
“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” premieres tonight at 8pm on ABC!
