Hey gang, It’s Dante with a new daily column called Sports Top Stories where I’ll pick apart some of the top stories in sports and give a Crave brand editorial on them. Today Mick Vick is back in the news, along with Andre Agassi and Allen Iverson. So sit back and get your torches ready because this is gonna get sketchy.

Vick to Bills

It looks like the rumor mill over Mike Vick can’t wait for the off season, there is word that Vick could be making his way to the Buffalo Bills next season. The big question is whether or not Vick has the ability to perform after his long layoff.

More than his skill, Mike Vick needs to be in the right system in order to have a chance at success. Vick might have the ability to run with the football but that doesn’t necessarily make him a wildcat quarterback, it just makes him mobile.

The fact is Buffalo doesn’t improve by just signing Mike Vick, but maintaining the services of Terrell Owens might at least give Vick a target. The truth is that Vick likely isn’t ready to start yet, and throwing him into a shaky system would be a bad idea.

What I wonder about is Mike Vick’s football IQ. I simply don’t know if he’s an X’s and O’s guy. The kind of guy that can carry a clip board. The fact is Vick is a weapon if he’s right physically, but there aren’t many QB weapons because you don’t want to interrupt the flow of your regular starting QB.

I ultimately think Vick would be better served with the Eagles until he’s ready to play, and that going to Buffalo would likely be disastrous if he’s looking to be a starter once more.

Statute of limitations

So Andre Agassi divulges some information about his drug use back when he was playing. Frankly I’m too old to be shocked when an athlete comes out with an admission of guilt about something. In this day and age of extreme media exposure there is just no way you can be shocked by admissions like this.

Now my view on this won’t be popular but I don’t agree with the notion that his titles should be revoked. The way I look at it is simple, there is a lot of pressure involved in pro sports, and it’s naïve to assume that even the best of us can’t succumb to the pressure. That’s not an excuse, it’s an admission that the job is hard. In other sports it has been revealed that a star or two used drugs and etc. and haven’t had their accolades stripped away.

Just come off the bench man!

So Allen Iverson is on the outs and may just have to retire. This all stems from one simple thing, his ego. What has me scratching my head is that AI still has plenty of ability, so what’s the problem? The problem is that AI’s personality on and off the court just don’t scream leadership. Without the ability to lead a team you need more than just AI to field a winning team.

Because it’s hard to field a winning team with AI in the equation you would assume that the star player would recognize that and change his tune. But as we see AI is still insistent on starting and controlling the offense of the team he plays for.

I hate to say it, but I don’t think AI has what it takes to play a diminished role on any team. A lot of the greats have had to take diminished roles towards the end of their careers, but not all of them. What’s sad about this particular situation is that AI still has plenty left in the tank, but no place to play.
