Who Dey?
The Cincinnati Bengals continued their impressive string of tight knit victories with a fourth quarter rally that ended with them victorious over the much touted Baltimore Ravens. With .22 seconds left, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer connected with wideout Andre Caldwell to cap a game winning 80 yard drive.
The Ravens, owners of an impressive high-powered offense and stingy defense over the course of the first 4 games, saw both sides of the ball do an about face. The offense only generated one touchdown while the defense allowed 403 yards, including 120 to Bengals running back Cedric Benson. The hundred yard game snapped Baltimore's NFL record 39 games without allowing a 100 yd rusher.
The Wacky NFL...
The Cleveland Browns got their first win against the Buffalo Bills, 6-3, in one eyesore of a game. Do you wonder how long it's going to be before Terrell Owens blows up and starts castrating the team, the coaches, the fans, and even their pets? It's coming, and soon.
Is Kyle Orton the next Joe Montana? No, I think it's safe to say he isn't that. What he is, though, is a quarterback who is the now 5-0 since being traded to the Denver Broncos. He orchestrated a 98 yard drive in the fourth quarter to tie the game against the New England Patriots and then led them to the game winning field goal in overtime. His final stat line: 35/48 330 yds 2 tds 1 int (his first of the season).
The Seattle Seahawks, considered one of the bottom feeders of the NFL, blanked the Jacksonville Jaguars 41-0 behind the return of QB Matt Hasselbeck. Hasselbeck threw for 4 touchdowns in his return.
SWEEP!!!
It was a tale of two sweeps in the world of baseball this weekend as the American league creeps ever closer to crowning a champion and the National League is doing its best to keep up.
The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins 4-1 to complete their 3 game sweep while the Los Angeles Angels outlasted the Boston Red Sox 7-6 to complete their sweep.
Over in the National League, the LA Dodgers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-1 to complete the sweep while the Philadelphia Phillies lead their series against the Colorado Rockies 2-1.
U...S...A....
The United States continued its home dominance on the golf course this weekend by beating the international squad 19 ½ – 14 ½, giving them a 5-0 mark on home soil since the start of the Presidents Cup in 1994. The American squad was led by the number one and two ranked golfers in the world, Tiger Woods and Phil Mikelson, who went a combined 9-0-1 for the competition.
