After a blowout game one that saw the Los Angeles Lakers crush the Orlando Magic by 25, basketball fans were witness to a tighter match Sunday night. The Magic, who ended up losing game 2 in overtime 101-96, played a much more competitive game.
"We had our chances to win," Dwight Howard said. "We turned the ball over too much. That got them the win."
The biggest chance the Magic had for victory came in the final seconds when a beautiful pass to Courtney Lee was wasted as he couldn’t convert the layup for the potential game winning points.
"We missed it. I don't know what else to say," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "We executed well, Hedo [Turkoglu] made a great pass. I'm not trying to be a pain ... Hedo made a great pass and he just missed it."
Game 3 takes place Tuesday night at 9 pm EST on ABC.
Call him the Gambler…
Kudo’s to NASCAR driver/owner Tony Stewart for recording his first Cup Points victory as an owner Sunday at Pocono. Driving his back-up car, Stewart used every trick he could to stretch out his fuel after he gambled and drove the final 41 laps without pitting.
'"We're just thankful we could make it," Stewart said.
The win keeps Stewart in first place in the points standings and all but assures him a place in the Chase for the Cup.
Never Count Him Out!
For most people, being four shots down in the final day of a golf tournament would be considered insurmountable but not if you’re named Tiger Woods, who seems able to overcome any deficit when he’s ‘in the zone’.
Sunday was one of those days as he shot a clutch 65, hitting all 14 fairways for the first time in six years, as he effectively announced to the rest of golf that he’s back and as good as ever.
"It was just a matter of time," Woods said. "It came together this week."
Pirates Watch!
After a heartbreaking trade midweek that saw the Pittsburgh Pirates best player, Nate Mclouth, traded to the Atlanta Braves for a trio of prospects, it’s getting harder and harder to imagine the Pirates not getting their 17th consecutive losing season. But the battling Buco’s are still fighting and with being only four games under .500, there is still hope. Keep an eye out Tuesday to see who they draft as they pick fourth.
