The best of the last week in sports.

Ever had a morning where every part of your body just hurt? Well, that's the case with me today and I only have myself to blame. You see, I have endeavored to overlook such things as being old and gravity challenged (fat) in an effort to recapture some measure of basketball skill two times a week. Problem is that I AM old and gravity challenged (fat) and that those evil, evil people that convinced me to bounce a ball again are about 10 years my junior. So I will suffer through the pangs of a rebellious body both on the court and at the computer to bring you the highlights of the last weekend free of official meaningful NFL games.

College Football Upset of the Week(end)

#20 BYU defeats #3 Oklahoma 14-13

Oklahoma came into the season with returning Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford and expectations of a National Championship run but both took a huge hit Saturday as Bradford went down late in the first half with a sprained shoulder and the Sooners went down to a late rally by BYU.

"Unbelievable," said Max Hall, quarterback of BYU and a nephew of former Cowboys quarterback Danny White. "For us to come out and pull off a win is a special night. I'll never forget it."

Just when you thought it was safe to fill your locker...

The New England Patriots pulled a shocker this weekend by trading five time Pro Bowl Defensive lineman Richard Seymour to the Oakland Raiders for a 2011 first round pick. Seymour is in his last year of his contract and it is thought that the Patriots would not try to keep him at the end of the season.

This team bolsters an Oakland defense that struggled against the run all last season and is being met with positive reaction from Oakland players.

"It shows the commitment of this organization," defensive end Greg Ellis said. "You can't guarantee we're going to have a great, great season this year. But the commitment is definitely there so players don't have to question that when you're making those kinds of moves to make something happen and hopefully win right now."

A.I. to Memphis heating up...

It appears that Allen Iverson may end up landing in Memphis, at least if you believe the tweets coming from A.I. himself. Iverson announced through his twitter account Sunday night that he has a face-to-face meeting scheduled for Monday with team owner Michael Heisley and other club officials.

Memphis is the only team courting A.I. with the cap space to sign him and has been interested in him since the beginning of free agency. From tweets sent by Iverson in recent days, it appears that the feeling is fast becoming mutual.

"Memphis is a place that I would love to play. The Grizzlies have good young players with a great upside. I love the city of Memphis, too. I would lead by example," Iverson wrote.

And history is about to be made!

The Pittsburgh Pirates, MY Pittsburgh Pirates, avoided the dreaded 17th straight losing season Sunday by beating the St. Louis Cardinals with a walk-off 6-5 win. But it's only a matter of time before the Bucs succumb to inevitability and become the record holder. A depressing thought for any team, let alone one that resides in a city that hoisted two championship trophy's this year.
