The Interception: Super Bowl XLIII
James Harrison intercepts Kurt Warner and returns it 100 yards for a touchdown.
I'll admit to a little bias on my part for naming this interception my top SB moment but watching James Harrison return an interception 100 yards to end the half and eventually be the deciding play in one of the greatest SuperBowls of all time was just awesome. The guy wasn't even supposed to be in coverage but he made the perfect read and put himself in the spot to make the play. Then to top it with that great, albeit slow, dash for the goal line was just the icing on the cake.
The Tackle: Super Bowl XXXIV
Mike Jones' tackle of Kevin Dyson on the two-inch line.
Down by seven, with time running out, Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair rallied his team and drove them to within scoring distance. Time for only one last play, the Titans called for an inside slant where a very open Kevin Dyson caught the ball and looked poised to run in for the potential winning score. But Mike Jones, seeing the catch, broke off his receiver and made a herculean tackle that stopped Dyson just short of the TD, ensuring a Rams win.
The Run: Super Bowl XVIII
Marcus Allen's miraculous 74-yard touchdown run.
With all due respect to Willie Parker, who broke Allen's record with a 75 yard run in SB XL, Allen's run remains the best in SB history because of the amount of effort put into it. The run called for him to run left but the Redskins had it completely cut off so he circled back around to the right side and just simply outran everyone for 74 yards.
The Start: SuperBowl I
Max McGee's amazing one handed catch.
In all things there must be a beginning and for the SB that was SuperBowl I. And in the vein of beginnings, the first amazing SB play happened in this game. Broadway Joe Namath found a streaking Max McGee, who had to reach back across his body to make an amazing one handed catch/ McGee then galloped 23 yards to record the first touchdown in SuperBowl history.
The Catch: SuperBowl XLII
David Tyree uses his head.
Look, the catch itself, in any game, with Tyree trapping the ball against his helmet, is amazing. But when you add in the location, the SB, and the time remaining, 59 seconds, as well as facing a team that was 18-0 and moments away from capping the greatest season of all time, then that adds up to one of the top SB moments of all time.
