It was a difficult weekend for Heisman hopeful's as three of our five listed favorites had such poor showings that this is all but assured their last week among the top 5. The college season is a brutal affair that leaves little room for mistakes and losses, so when they happen, a players shelf life in the spotlight is very, very short.
Terrell Pryor, QB, Ohio State: 14/28 156 yds 1 int. 56 yds rushing
After a decisive loss on a national stage in their first defense of their number 1 ranking, Terrell Pryor and the Ohio State Buckeyes coughed up an epic hairball to Wisconsin Saturday night. Their 31-18 loss not only knocked them down to 10 in the BCS rankings but also all but assured Pryor of not finishing in the top 3 when it comes to Heisman voting.
Heisman Value: Falling Hard
Kellen Moore, QB, Boise St.: 14/16 231 yds 2 tds
Moore had another solid outing against a sub-standard team this weekend, tossing two touchdowns in limited playing time as Boise rolled over San Jose St. 48-0. Until the competition starts to get tougher, don't expect his stock to rise any in the eyes of voters.
Heisman Value: Steady
Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas: 10/15 96 yds 1 td
Both Mallett and Arkansas saw their season dreams shatter this past weekend as they took their second defeat of the season, knocking them effectively out of the SEC title race. Mallett got his disappointment a little earlier in the day as a hard hit to his head took him out of the game in the first half. The loss all but knocks Mallett out of the Heisman race.
Heisman Stock: Falling
Denard Robinson, QB, Michigan: 13/18 96 yds 1 td, 1 int. 105 yds rushing
In a tough week for Heisman hopeful's, Robinson's day stood out as the toughest as he yet again couldn't finish a game due to injuries and his Michigan Wolverines fell for the second straight week after facing yet another quality opponent. Robinson has proved that he is a gifted athlete but his playing style combined with a subpar team makes for a doomed combination. The fact is, he's out of the Heisman picture with this loss, plain and simple, and if he doesn't be very careful, he may end up out for the season with the shots he's taking.
Heisman Stock: Falling
LaMichael James, RB, Oregon St.: IDLE
It was a big week for James, and it was done without him even carrying the ball. With the week off, Oregon saw Ohio St. fall, leaving them atop the standings in the Associated Press and USA Today polls and James saw some of his stiffest Heisman competition fall away with poor performances.
Heisman Stock: Rising
