The Heisman Trophy is the most prestigious individual award given out by college football. It is awarded annually by the Heisman Trophy Trust to the most outstanding player in collegiate football. While there are usually clear candidates heading into the season, this year bucks that trend as the field is wide open for anyone to step up and claim this honor. To keep track of this on a regular basis, CraveOnline is going to provide you with it's definitive top five candidates for the 2010 season and keep track of how they are doing throughout the college season.
With week one behind us, let's look at who we got and how they performed in the first week of action.
Terrell Pryor, QB, Ohio State:
Pryor engineered a week 1 45-7 win over Marshal by going an efficient 17-25 for 247 yards and three td's. While not facing a powerhouse team, Pryor did what he was expected to do against against a lesser team, dominate, which has been a problem for Ohio State in the past.
Heisman Value: Holding steady
Jacory Harris Jr., QB, Miami:
A junior quarterback on a traditional power that has a chance to contend for the national title, Jacory Harris led Miami to a 45-0 shutout of Florida A&M. Harris went 12/15 for 210 yards and 3 td's as the heavily favored Hurricanes easily rolled to their first victory of the season.
Heisman Value: Holding Steady
Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech:
Ryan Williams and Virginia Tech suffered a huge setback Monday night after third ranked Boise State defeated Tech 33-30 on national television. Williams was largely held in check, rushing for only 44 yards on 21 carries, but he did manage 3 touchdowns; 2 by ground and 1 through the air.
Heisman Stock: Dipping slightly
Case Keenum, QB, Houston:
The dark horse on this list, Keenum is set to break the NCAA all time passing record. The only knockoff on him is that he plays for Conference USA, a non-BCS conference, thus his stock isn't as high as it should be. Keenen led the Cougars to a 68-28 week 1 win and went 17-22 for 274 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also threw 2 picks.
Heisman Stock: Holding Steady
Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas:
Ryan Mallett had a solid week 1 in leading 17th ranked Arkansas to an easy 44-3 win over Tennessee Tech. He threw for 301 yards, 3 td's and 1 pick on 21-24 passing.
Heisman Stock: Holding Steady
