AFC Outguns NFC...
NFC 34, AFC 41
In its inaugural break from its traditional post-SuperBowl Hawaii setting, the ProBowl took place this Sunday and delivered it's usual high flying, no defense, performance for fans. Playing in a continuous drizzle, Matt Shaub led the AFC with two early touchdowns en route to winning the most valuable player award in his first All-Star performance.
"It's a game you watch growing up as a kid and wonder if you could ever be in," Schaub said. "To actually be a part of it is incredible."
Aaron Rogers of the NFC kept pace with Shaub, throwing two touchdowns himself, but couldn't lock up the MVP without the NFC winning.
Celts in Free-fall?
It's safe to say that there is nobody more happy to see the month of January end than the Boston Celtics, who capped a 6-8 month with a gut-shot loss at the hands of the Lakers on Sunday. The Celts had the game well in hand before allowing Kobe Bryant to make one of those “how did he do that?” shots to put LA up by one and, after one missed 24 ft jumper by Ray Allen, the win.
The Losing month is the first that Boston has had since “the Big Three” came together in 2007 and has sparked speculation about whether the Celtics will make a big splash before the trade deadline.
Paul to be out 1 to 2 months.
Speaking of gut-shots, the New Orleans Hornets took one this weekend when they learned that they would be without superstar Chris Paul for 1 to 2 months after he decided to undergo arthroscopic surgery for a cartilage tear in his left knee. The Surgery will take place on Monday and was believed to be caused by a late fall in the final minutes of regulation Friday when the Hornets played the Bulls.
Federer Wins...Again!
Roger Federer captured his sixteenth Grand Slam title by beating Andy Murrey in the Australian Open Sunday. Less than a day after winning, Federer remarked in an interview that this win is easily his most special. He credits this to the additions of a wife and twin six-month old's that just gives more meaning to everything he accomplishes.
"Having kids and being a father now and being married enhances everything," he said, tanned and relaxed in jeans and a gray T-shirt. "I'm such a happy person today to see how well everything is working out for me. It just makes me extremely happy, extremely relaxed and it allows me to play good tennis, and I couldn't ask for more."
