Ok people, I want everyone to take a deep breath, take a seat, and brace yourself for some breaking news; Brett Favre is contemplating retirement (again).
Hot on the heals of a massive playoff loss that can easily be placed on his shoulders for a moronic decision to throw across his body back to the middle of the field instead of taking the open ten yards in front of him and just hoofing it, Brett Favre is considering hanging up the cleats (again).
ESPN reporter Ed Werder posed the standard question about the quarterbacks future immediately after the heart wrenching loss and was told that a return for another season is "highly unlikely, but it has been an awesome year,"
When pressed for more, Favre gave his typical early postseason response.
"Just wondering if I can hold up, especially after a day like today," Favre said . "Physically and mentally. That was pretty draining. I am going to go home, a couple of days and just talk it over with the family."
Not one to usually speculate (yeah, right), I can read in between the lines of this response and tell you what was really said.
“Well Ed, I'm gonna pout a bit and take a month or two talking about how old and tired I am, dropping a hint or two that it's over. Heck (insert chuckle), I'll probably even hold some press conference for my good 'ol boys and announce it”
“Then, around training camp time, I'll start talking about getting that competitive itch and how hard it is not to be getting ready to toss the pigskin around. Finally, about two games into preseason, I'll show up to camp, make some big speech how I got one year left in me, and give her a whack.”
Look, we all know this is how it's going to go down, be honest with yourselves and you'll admit it. Even his teammates understand this, just ask wideout Bernard Berrian.
"It's still early. Way too early. Brett is liable to change his mind five, 10 times down the road," Berrian said. "He already knows that we want him back. It's more or less letting him go off and do his thing."
No, I'm not intentionally trying to disrespect one of the greatest to play the game but somewhere between winning SuperBowl's and giving his all on the field, Favre turned into that attention seeking ex-girlfriend who just won't stay away and I find it a little sad.
But hey, who am I to judge, I just try to give my fans what they want and in that interest, for those of you that were inspired and awed by the Conference Championship games and would like to watch them whenever you want, head over to www.WBshop.com where Warner Bro's has so kindly provided them.
