You know I’ve had it up to here with all the Tiger coverage. It’s not that they are talking about the man that bugs me because that is simply going to happen given the circumstances. What really gets to me is the hostility towards Tiger in the supposed reporting of facts. Some people need to admit that they stopped being journalists years ago and are now simple sensationalists that will chase down any ‘lead’ for a ‘story’.
Defending Chumps?
It doesn’t look good for Troy Polamalu and his bum knee. The star defensive player hasn’t even been cleared to practice much less play and with his knee goes the fate of his team. Which says something about the Steelers and the NFL, in fact it says something about pro sports in general.
For those of you pointing out the Madden curse don’t stand too close to Mr. Fitzgerald because so far he’s been safe, but it’s curious that Troy has been hurt twice! The Steelers apparently need Polamalu because they have been on the worst slide, and are in danger of letting history repeat itself and again not making the playoffs after winning the championship the year before.
I think the fact that losing one defensive player on a Super Bowl team results in missing the playoffs speaks to the parity of the teams and level of talent being spread evenly throughout the league.
Danica makes her move
I’m not a NASCAR fan but I take note of what happens in the sport. Dale Earnhardt Jr. who has had his fair share of team issues of late is a key figure in the move of Danica Patrick to from Indy Car to NASCAR. Before you jump to conclusions or start getting tickets to see Patrick take on Jimmy Johnson know that she isn’t quite there yet.
Patrick will be racing in the minor circuit in the onset of her NASCAR career. That is probably a chance for her to get used to the circuit and what not. Apparently there are cases of Indy drivers making the transition to NASCAR with limited success and Patrick isn’t exactly tearing it up on the Indy circuit.
I for one am pulling for Patrick, just because I hope she finds success because it would awesome to witness her success in my lifetime on the bigger stage that is Stock Car racing. It’s just that the odds aren’t in her favor.
Economy schmeconomy
So if the economy is in the tank and only getting worse, and every time we talk about the future of pro sports we’re talking about how crappy it’s going to be because of the economy, how come when the winter meetings come around it’s business as usual.
Curtis Granderson is apparently the commodity of the day and he’s going where? To the Yankees. I’m, not a Yankee hater but I find it interesting that there is all this gloom and doom and yet and still the big spenders keep right on spending. At what point are we going to see the major leagues start to tighten their belts.
You could say that the Roy Halladay scenario is playing out because of the economic crunch but I don’t know about that. It seems like teams are always going to be somewhat leery about signing a pitcher no matter what the economic climate is. All I’m saying is can the doom and gloom if there isn’t any to really report.
