Get the rifle and the booze church boy.

The potential Mayweather Pacquiao fight has me really excited about boxing. That’s the effect a good fight has on the people and it doesn’t get much better than Manny vs. Floyd. Both fighters have great pedigree’s and make a huge argument that they would win. Here, on Top Stories, I’m going to have to go with Manny, I just think he has a little more in the tank. You heard it here folks, if you bet don’t blame me. Now let’s talk a little Tiger, our friend Ron Artest, and the peoples champ Tim Tebow.

Killing Tiger

So, investigative journalists flexed their muscles and caught Tiger red handed. The former President lies to the American people on more than one occasion with video evidence and they don’t bat an eye, but let Tiger lie to his wife and all hell breaks loose. I think we’ve come to enjoy our ‘freedom’ so much that we’ve resigned ourselves to living inside the matrix.

I’m not saying that as a role model for small children that what Tiger did wasn’t of some significance. But what I’m asking for is a little balance here. You can’t tell me that there aren’t more important people out there lying about something more important than infidelity. It seems that no one is remaining vigilant because one form of shyster wiggles out of the woodwork every other year or so with a pyramid scheme or the like. Where is the investigative reporting that stops the ENRON’s of the world?

Eventually the Tiger buzz will go away and we’ll get back to our apathetic existence until something else gets us hopping mad enough to do absolutely nothing.

I’ve heard of worse…

Ron Artest admits that he drank a shot of Hennessey in between halves of professional basketball games. I’m sorry but I fail to see the news here. I know guys that smoke cigarettes between pick up basketball games, and drink on top of that. I watch pro baseball players chew tobacco for the buzz that they get. Players perform drunk, high, on speed, and who knows what else, and it’s been this way almost from the beginning.

The reason this is news two fold, it’s because it’s Ron Artest, and because he’s unapologetic about his deeds and everyone in the world thinks that they are owed an apology. Ron Artest has an image that he can’t easily live down, much like Dennis Rodman who chose to embrace it to still undetermined ends. Because of his image almost anything he does will seem more volatile than it appears.

Is what he did bad? Yeah it probably isn’t good, but t says more about the sport and it’s culture than it says about one man who exists within its framework. It’s tough to define standards for what players should and shouldn’t be able to say in this day and age. AT the end of the day, it’s up to what Artest does on the court.

Should he get it?

The Heisman award is one of the most lofty goals in all of sports. The Heisman pose is known all around and I don’t recall anyone pulling a ‘Jerry West’ at the end of a good play in any sport. The other day I heard a commentator explain that Tim Tebow shouldn’t win the Trophy because it’s not a lifetime achievement award. My first thought is why can’t it be… this year.

I don’t want to get into the numbers but he is the quarterback of an undefeated team and if they win their next game it will be without their best defensive player. You give him the Heisman because you’ve never quite seen a player like him, and you won’t soon see one like him again.

Tim Tebow managed to capture a nation of people in a small window of time. There is no guarantee that we’ll see the same success in the pro’s, so you top off the era with the highest award in the land for the greatest college player ever.
