Sharing the spotlight, an immediate return, and champs tips?

So Monday night is what I and my immediate family call Heroes night. The game starts at 5:30 PST so we have a good amount of football to watch before our show starts. Last night was simply amazing because I just didn’t know what to expect going in. How could I? Both teams had earned enough respect not to be underestimated. So I can’t say that I saw the one sided cold beating that I witnessed. When Heroes was over the game was over, there was no point in watching the Saints execute the Patriots so we watched reality TV instead.

I still refuse to say it…

But I have to admit now at this point in the season that the Saints are the team to beat in the NFL. You see the Patriots almost beat Indianapolis in the midst of all that 4th and 2 hoopla. A win that close in my mind puts the team that close by comparison. Though the Colts are undefeated, they struggled against a team that the Saints just pushed aside.

For at least he last few seasons the Colts and the Patriots have been the benchmarks for regular season excellence. While other teams struggle through the season, those two teams systematically weave their way through the season to the playoffs. So, to just beat up on one of them like they were some poe-dunk team with no talent is impressive.

The scary thing is that is still the Patriots. And they learn from their mistakes. They still have a shot to make the playoffs. Therefore the Super Bowl. So the question isn’t can they beat them anymore, it’s can they beat them again?

And he’s back?

So according to ESPN.com Allen Iverson has been offered a one year deal to come play for the Philadelphia 76ers. I say good for him. The sixers aren’t that far below .500 and Iverson might have a chance to start due to team injury.

That gives him a chance to compete for the starting job. You see, that is still the issue at its heart. What kind of role can Iverson resign himself to play? Will we see an Iverson that can’t jibe with what the coach is trying to do? The cancer that his critics accuse him of being?

I think that a lot of philly fans are gonna be holding their breathes hoping they don’t have to worry about that answer. Something tells me that if Iverson gets this chance he’ll be on his best behavior.

Putting the fun back in football?

So apparently Rex Ryan the coach of the New York Jets made a few calls and got Joe Girardi to come out and show Mark Sanchez how to slide on his good leg. The report said that he slid 10 to 15 times for the Yankees skipper. I think the cynic in me went to war with the childish fan that wants sports to be fun and innocent. The kid won. I think it’s great that Rex Ryan does a little extra to get the local fans into the game and the team.

Football and pro sports suffer from a bit of a bad rap, and it’s because behavior like that of Rex Ryan isn’t encouraged by the league to my knowledge. The NFL and other major leagues could use all the good will it can generate.

Instead of fining the crap out of players for celebrating touchdowns in order to show how conservative they can be, they might want to try reaching out to the actual generation that watches and spends money at their games?
