Hey gang how’s life been treating you? Today we’re going all NFL in an attempt to keep up with all the excitement that the League has been generating. Did anyone see that Lions and Browns game? Who saw that coming? While I don’t really have a huge opinion on that or the rumors that Urban Myer might head to Notre Dame I do have something to say about the Steelers, Denver, and this one guy named Brett Favre.
Are we having Big Ben trouble?
Things are not looking good for the defending champs who until this past Sunday I felt like the championship was theirs to lose. It’s not the losses, odds are better when you’ve lost a few. It’s the injuries that might end up ending their chances to repeat. Not only is Roethlisberger questionable for the next game, but their back up Charlie Batch is out for the rest of the season with a wrist injury.
The Steelers sit in second place at 6-4 behind the Bengals and ahead of the Ravens. At 5-5 the Ravens are still in the hunt, especially if the Big Ben can’t start and they lose behind their third string QB who is a fifth round pick with no NFL starts under his belt. In one weekend the Ravens could be tied with the Steelers, and from there the Ravens could smell blood in the water. It could be the motivation they need to get over the hump after a nice start.
The news for the Steelers gets worse yet, their third string QB is currently the only active QB they have. Which means that the Steelers don’t have a back up right now. Is Byron Leftwich looking for work?
Exposed in Denver.
Last years Denver Broncos have a lot of the same personnel as this year’s Denver Broncos. That’s not to say that there aren’t any new additions like Corel Buckhalter and Knowshon Moreno but essentially they are the same team. Don’t tell that to rookie head coach Josh McDaniels who lead his new team to a 6-0 start.
Josh McDaniels deserves a lot of credit for those 6 wins, he gave the team a new look that caught about 6 teams by surprise. But come November, with 6 games worth of game film to study, team number 7 was ready, as well as teams 8, 9, and 10.
While it sucks that they lost the way they did, it should have been expected when you think about the personnel that makes up the team. They still need help on both sides of the ball, and until they get it, they will struggle in the AFC West, the worst division in the AFC at least.
Who is really the best, or who can win it all?
The Saints and the Colts are both currently undefeated. The Saints are playing as if Drew Brees was sitting in from of Madden 10 with the game set on easy, and Payton Manning is the single most terrifying QB in the NFL. But, can either team go undefeated and win it all? Should they?
Odds are good that neither team will go undefeated even though I think that the Saints more balanced attack gives them an edge as far as a perfect season goes, but still they should lose at some point. I just think that mentally, taking a loss keeps you hungry for winning it all.
The real problem is that neither team is the best team in football. Currently the Minnesota Vikings are the best team in football. They have lost a game already and keep improving with each game. Even Brett Favre has gotten better if you can believe that, or at least he’s as good as he needs to be which is great. All of this sits squarely on Brett Favre’s health, if he can keep it up for an entire season then the Super Bowl is his to win, while Peyton an Drew can battle it out for MVP.
The real reason I believe that Favre will remain healthy is because he has Adrian Peterson to take the load off. If those two stay healthy it’s a wrap.
