Fantasy Football Extra!

A mid-season look at who's leading the pack...

We are halfway through most fantasy football seasons so it's time to take a mid season look at the top players out there by position. Some of the names listed may come as a surprise and if they finish strong, could shake up next seasons draft.

Top Fantasy Stud By Position (Standard League Format)

Quarterback

Matt Schaub, HOU 170 pts : Quietly the best fantasy producer this year to date, Shaub has been the model of consistency and fantasy greatness since week 2 (he started the season with a dreadful 4 fantasy points in week one). Since week 2, there has been only one week where Shaub has failed to put up at least 20 fantasy points (week 4, 12 pts).

Runner Up: Tom Brady, NE 167

Running Back

Adrian Peterson, MIN 127 pts: The consensus number one pick in fantasy football hasn't had a flashy season, not topping 20 pts since week one, but he has also failed to give a complete stinker as well, with 9 pts being the least amount of production he's given in a week.

Runner Up: Cedric Benson, CIN 108

Wide Receiver

Andre Johnson, HOU 87 pts: When your quarterback is the top at his position, it tends to reason that his top wideout would follow suit and that's just the case with Andre Johnson. Johnson is the favorite target of Matt Shaub and has thrown up some big fantasy games over the first 7 weeks.

Runner Up: Chad Ochocinco, CIN 85

Tight End

Owen Daniels, HOU 79 pts: Houston dominates the passing scene and it goes to show the versatility of their offense when their tight end almost matches their top wideout fantasy point for fantasy point.

Runner Up: Vernon Davis, SF 71

Kickers

Lawrence Tynes, NYG 69 pts: Playing for the high powered offense of the New York Giants is paying dividends for Tynes owners. He's made 16 of 19 field goals and has knocked through all 21 of his extra points attempts.

Runner Up: Stephen Gostowski, NE Ryan Longwell MIN 62

Defense/Special Team

Philadelphia Eagles 115 pts: You can always count on Philly to give you a stout defense that prides itself on turnovers and sacks.

Runner Up: New Orleans Saints 111
