In case you missed it this weekend the New York Yankees managed to put away the Anaheim Angeles in a 5-2 victory Sunday afternoon. The Angels hung tough but were overpowered by Yankee pitching. Earlier last week the Philadelphia Phillies managed to finish off the Dodgers for a chance at repeating as World Series Champs. The only thing standing in their way is the Yankees, the most storied franchise in pro sports.
Already this series looks more promising than last year’s which was mired by pour weather and lackluster performances. This year’s series has a lot of intrigue to go along with the actual play on the field.
A-Rod seems to be putting away the ghosts of series past and has been on fire this post season. With just one more series to go, is there an answer for the Yankees slugger? Backinhg up Rodriguez is the tried and true Yankee offense lead by Mr. Clutch Derek Jeter. C.C. Sabathia took home MVP honors for the ALCS and looks to be ready for the final curtain of the season. Proving that he can work on short rest, Sabathia and the battery of pitchers will bring their A-game to be certain.
On the other side the NLCS hasn’t been nearly as tough for the defending champs as the Dodgers ran out of gas after living dangerously with an untested pitching staff. Cole Hamels may not have had the most ideal regular season, but his pitching was there when it counted against the Dodgers. Jimmy Rollins, the former MVP of the league, leads a high powered offense against a far more worthy competitor than last year’s Tampa Bay Rays who caught lightning in a bottle last year.
Love them or hate them, the Yankees in the World Series guarantees an interesting matchup. If anything you should watch to see if the Yankees are as good as advertised, or if the Phillies can play David to the Bronx Bombers Goliath. No matter who wins the series should be one for the ages.
