A Good Day for Quarterbacks...

It was a very good day Sunday if your name ended in Favre, Brady, Roethlisberger, Shaub, or Brees and a very bad day if your team was the one facing them.

Ben Roethlisberger, whose Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns 27-14, passed for 2 touchdowns (versus 1 interception) and 417 yards on 23/35 passing.

Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings improved to 6-0 with a 33-31 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Favre was stellar, going 21/29 for 278 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The New Orleans Saints, led by 4 tds and 369 yards from Drew Brees, improved to 5-0 with an overpowering win over the previously unbeaten New York Giants.

Matt Shaub steered the Houston Texans to a 28-17 win over the surprising Cincinnati Bengals. Shaub went 28/40 for 392 yards, 4 tds and 1 pick.

But the quarterback gameball has to go to the New England Patriots signal caller Tom Brady for tossing 6 touchdown passes in a 59-0 pasting of the Tennessee Titans. The most impressive aspect of his 380 yds, 6 td game, other than doing it in almost blizzard like conditions, was that Brady threw 5 of those touchdowns in the second quarter, an NFL record.

On the Flip Side...

While New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady may have been having one of his best games, the starter on the team he was demolishing, the Tennessee Titans, wasn't. Titans quarterback Kerry Collins was simply horrendous as he compiled a 4.9 quarterback rating. That's right, a 4.9.  For the record, Kerry was 2/12 for -7 yards and one touchdown.

Um...This is NOT how you Celebrate a Win!

It appears that winning can come at a cost, and for Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed, that cost could be financial. Hours after the Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns 27-14, Reed was cited for public intoxication and disorderly conduct blocks away from where the game was held. This is Reed's second brush with the law this year as he pleaded guilty in February to disorderly conduct and criminal mischief for destroying a paper towel holder at a Pennsylvania Sheets establishment.

In his defense, the paper towel holder was out of paper towels.

Let the BCS Polls Begin...

The first BCS Poll of the year is out with the Florida Gators topping it at number one. The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas Longhorns are second and third on the list. The biggest surprise on the list belongs to the USC Trojans, who despite being ranked number 4 on both the USA and the Associated Press's Poll, are number 7 on the BCS rankings.

MLB Playoff Update.

The Championship series for both the American League and National League are in full bloom as October continues to roll by. The New York Yankees took a 2-0 lead over the Los Angeles Angels on an Angels error in the 13th inning Saturday night. The game featured yet another game tying, late inning home run from Yankee Star Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who has previously been known for disappearing in the postseason,  has three game-tying homers after the seventh inning this postseason.

In the National league, the defending champs Philadelphia Phillies are up 2-1 over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Phillies embarrassed the Dodgers Sunday night with a 11-0 win. Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee tossed a three hit shutout to lead Philadelphia to the easy win.
