The Fantasy Football landscape continues to reel from both the injury bug and a rash of off performances from former STUD players. It looks like Philadelphia QB Donovan McNabb is going to miss a second start while Cowboys RB Marion Barber might not make it on the field this week. Past top dog Tom Brady is struggling to find his groove and that is trickling down to other high end players like Randy Moss and Wes Welker (who is battling his own injury issues). If this trend continues, it may be the creative FF owner who takes the crown this season!
Hits and Misses
The streak ends at one week for perfection as I recorded a miss on both Starters and Bench Material. Two out of three isn't bad though...right?
Starters
QB Kerry Collins: 21/33 216 yds 2 tds 1 int HIT
RB Michael Turner: 105 yds 1 td HIT
WR Bernard Berrian: 6 rec 46 yds MISS
Bench Material
QB Jay Cutler: 27/38 236 2 td MISS
RB Kevin Smith: 93 total yards 1 fumble lost HIT
WR Roy Williams: 1 rec 18 yds HIT
Starts of the Week!
QB Trent Edwards (vs NO): Trent Edwards is off to a solid start to the FF season with 22 and 21 points in weeks one and two respectively. Week 3 should continue this trend as he faces the high powered New Orleans Saints who have been known to give up good days to opposing QB's.
RB Steven Jackson (vs GB): The Green Bay Packers are struggling on defense and their number one weakness right now is stopping the running game. That plays right into the hands of the St. Louis Rams, who have to rely on their running game to do anything else. Look for Jackson to break the 100 yard barrier with at least one td.
WR Santonio Holmes (at CIN): The Steelers are a team in transition from a run oriented O to a pass first team and a porous Bengals D should help ease that change. With Holmes emerging as the number one option in Pittsburgh, this should translate into good numbers.
Other Notable Starts: QB Matt Shaub(vs Jax), RB Fred Jackson (vs NO), WR Donald Drive (at STL)
Bench Material of the Week!
QB Tom Brady (vs ATL): Look, something is off in New Englands offense and I think we all know its in Tom Brady's lap. I think we also know it's only a matter of time before it gets figured out. But I think its safe to say that's still a week away.
RB Brandon Jacobs (at TB): Speaking of being off the first two games, Brandon Jacobs has not lived up to expectations so far. I think the brunt of that falls on a lack of named talent on the receiving end of the O. Without a Plaxico Burress type name, opposing teams are putting an extra man in the box to stop Jacobs. The good news is that another week like the one Eli Manning had against Dallas should ease the running lanes a bit but that's still one good game away.
WR Dwayne Bowe (at PHI): The Kansas City offense is stagnant and isn't going to get better anytime soon so it's safe to just bench anyone from that squad for the near future.
Other Notable Benches: QB Brett Favre (vs SF), RB Reggie Bush (at BUF), WR Roy Williams (vs CAR)
CraveOnline Yohoo's
The Yohoo's improve to 2-0 with a 76-68 win over the Bulldogs and travel next to face a 1-1 SlapAhoe team.
Peyton Manning gets the gameball for pulling a win out of my fanny with two long TD completions. They would have been better if they went to Reggie Wayne but I'm not complaining...much. I'm really hoping Brandon Jacobs breaks out of his slump soon and I'm really kicking myself for not keeping Dallas Clark on the team (though Hines ward, who I picked to keep instead of Clark, has been solid and Chris Cooley, who I picked as my TE, isn't a slouch himself).
Insulting football joke of the week...
