That was then and this is now, and Nick Diaz is older and wiser, but so is Shamrock. This is the first fight of the year for Strikeforce, the promotion company who made history with Frank Shamrock in 2006. The company looks to strike gold once again with the tale of revenge that’s unfolding, “I’d be pretty pissed off if someone smashed my coach,” said the 36-year-old Shamrock reflecting on his fight in 2006. “Diaz is going to be carrying the pride of his school with him, but a fight’s a fight. Someone’s getting smashed and it’s just not going to be me.”
The Showtime event will air April 11th from the HP Pavilion (tickets are still available) in San Jose, CA where Shamrock lives and trains. Shamrock is coming back from an injury suffered in 2008 at the hands of Cung Le, his local rival. “I’m done breaking myself for entertainment,” Shamrock continued. “I’m just going to break everybody else and they’ll be entertained by that.”
Nick Diaz wasn’t the only one commenting on the up coming confrontation “I’ve crossed paths and trained with people who have also trained with Frank,” continued Diaz. “I know what they do, how they fight, and the way they act, so it’s great for me to get this fight while I’m still young. There’s a lot of things I can talk about, but I’m going to represent Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and I’m down for whatever’s going to happen in this fight.”
The fight airs live for the East Coast and delayed for the West at 10 PM on Showtime.
