I’ll Take a Mulligan, Please.
Well, I think I’ll take the next stop off the Texas Tech bandwagon after they were dismantled on national television by Oklahoma, 65-21. It was a blowout in every sense of the phrase as the Red Raiders were just manhandled on both sides of the ball. And as much as I’d like to give all the credit to Oklahoma, who came out prepared, confident, and explosive, I have to question how prepared Texas Tech really was and how much they were listening to their own hype. Take former Heisman frontrunner, QB Graham Harrell, as an example. He boldly stated on ESPN that he “can’t get sacked” and ended up being harried by Oklahoma all day. The lesson is this; you gotta watch the overconfidence, it has a way of coming back to bite you.
So, with the #2 team in the country losing we have….
Anarchy in the Big 12!!!!
The Oklahoma Sooners re-established themselves as major players in the Big 12 South with their easy W over #2 ranked Texas Tech but in doing so, they have thrown a possible cloud of controversy of the entire conference. With the win, that leaves us one week away from a three-way tie between three one-loss teams (Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas). You can easily dismiss Tech due to that embarrassing loss to Oklahoma but the debate between Texas and Oklahoma promises to be huge!
So, with two possible one-loss teams, the deciding factor will be…
And the BCS Standings Shake-up Continues.
With the Big 12 in a possible tie situation, the deciding point in determining who gets the crown and a possible trip to the National Championship game rests in the hands of poll voters as the Big 12 uses the BCS Standings as a potential tiebreaker. The current BCS polls have Texas at #2 and Oklahoma at #3.
And Streak Continues…(Sorry, couldn’t go a Monday without mentioning this)
I dread the day when the Detroit Lions realize it’s a four quarter game because if that happens, I may not get to see my winless season, and that would really put a damper on this great NFL season we have going on. On Sunday, my favorite bunch of lovable losers jumped out to a 17-0 first quarter lead on the Tampa Bay Bucs. This was actually kinda troublesome, as the Bucs aren’t known for an explosive offense. But my boys ended up reverting to form in the second quarter, allowing 21 points to Tampa Bay, on the way to a 38-20 shellacking.
Who Needs to Teach an Old Dog New Tricks when the Old Ones Work So Well?
Congratulations to Penn State for locking up another Big Ten Championship and a trip to Pasadena to play in the Rose Bowl. They earned this trip with solid play all season that ended with a 49-18 rout of 15th ranked Michigan State. This win marks the 383rd of Joe Paterno’s illustrious career and is validation to his still coaching after 43 years. Godspeed on a full and quick recovery for Paterno as he recovers from hip replacement surgery.
New Coach, Same Results…
In the most lopsided victory in rivalry history, Michigan lost 42-7 to 10th ranked Ohio State Saturday before an invigorated crowd at the Shoe in Columbus, Ohio. This loss was just the spoiled icing on a rotten cake of a first season for former West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez. Rodriguez finished with a 3-9 record (2-6 in the Big Ten), for the worst record the in Wolverines history. This loss also marks the first time either of the teams has won 5 straight over the other.
