The Tennessee Titans are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL after a 31-21 beating of the Indianapolis Colts. Former USC star LenDale White rushed for two touchdowns in the Titans win while Payton Manning threw two interceptions to Chris Hope. This was a huge test for the upstart Titans who faced a solid team in the Colts.
According to ESPN.com Washington Huskies coach Tyrone Willingham was fired Monday. The Huskies got off to a horrid 0-7 start which was too much for the school’s athletic director Scott Woodward who informed the media that Willingham will step down once the season ends. Poor Willingham, this is his second team in a row that parted ways due to poor on field performance.
In the age of instant replay everything is laid bare. So of course there is a big stink about missed calls from the World Series. The Umpires from this year’s Series have admitted that they missed a call in game four where Jimmy Rollins should have been called out but wasn’t. Instant replay is awesome and all, but we make it sound like umps just started making mistakes only in the last decade. The fact that humans call the game adds a dynamic that we should be cautious to do without. Just consider the amazing things that might not happen if a computer is calling balls and strikes.
Speaking of the Series, this year marks the first time there has ever been a suspension of a World Series game. The score was tied going into the sixth inning but they couldn’t continue due to rain. Commissioner Bud Selig made it clear that even had the score not been tied all nine innings would have been played and we wouldn’t have a champ on a technicality. The final innings of game five will be played as soon as weather permits.
As I reported last week Larry Johnson is in some degree of trouble after spitting his drink in a woman’s face in a bar last week. His team the Kansas City Chiefs may be looking to sever ties to the all pro running back stating that he would not play for the foreseeable future. No biggie, their season is effectively over anyway.
After winning their 17th NBA championship the Boston Celtics have made Danny Ainge, a key part of the team’s success, the president of Basketball operations. Ainge gets credit for acquiring Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen who were instrumental in the team’s success last season. Yeah this is the same guy who damn near encouraged his team to lose so he could make the moves necessary to get KG in the first place.
There is a QB problem in Dallas. Tony Romo is still on the DL and things aren’t looking good for back up Brad Johnson who had a meager 122 yards passing in a close win over Tampa Bay this past Sunday. A high ranking source on the team states that Dallas is considering starting third stringer Brooks Bollinger. I know I picked Dallas to win it all this year but that pick seems more and more unlikely as weeks go by.
Personally I don’t believe in bad quarterbacks, I believe in bad situations. Based on that I think it’s fair to say that J.T. O’Sullivan is in a bad situation with the San Francisco 49er’s. In just seven games the QB has thrown 11 picks and coughed it up 11 more times. Interim coach Mike Singletary had finally seen enough when the QB committed three first half turnovers versus the Seattle Seahawks.
In a move that could come back to haunt them the Knicks left rookie Patrick Ewing Jr. off of their 15 man roster to make room for Anthony Roberson instead. Ewing had a sensational preseason and has the skill set to play in the NBA. Ewing will likely catch on somewhere and you can bet that the Knicks will pay for what they have done, oh yes, they will pay!
