Leading off with the death Mariners outfielder, Greg Halman, who was found stabbed to death early Monday morning in his home city of Rotterdam, Netherlands. Police have arrested Halman's brother as a suspect and is currently under questioning. Halman hit .230 in 35 games for Seatle last season, and was the clubs minor league player of the year in 2008.

Again, being reminded just how little sports plays in the grand scheme of things, more despairing news in the world of college athletics…

Arkansas backup tight end Garrett Eck-man was found unconscious in his dorm room Sunday morning and pronounced dead shortly after 12:00 noon at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. So far the cause of the death is unknown. Eck-man was last seen playing video games by a roommate just one hour before he was found……

And finally going back to Friday, Oklahoma State is in mourning as well, as a plane went down in route to Arkansas, killing their women's basketball coach, Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna. In a crash that also took the lives of the pilot, Olin Branstetter, and his wife Paula, the causes of the crash are unknown, but believed to most likely be a mechanical malfunction. It's been just over 10 years ago when 10 men affiliated with the Oklahoma State men's basketball team lost their lives in a plane crash as well……

Transitioning from all the heartbroken, melancholy, there was some terrific happenings, believe it or not..

A couple of championships actually…

First in the world of Nascar, as Tony Stewart took him his 3rd Sprint Cup championship, winning at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday night in what many are declaring the greatest finish in Nascar history. The win came down to not only the final race, but the final lap in dramatic fashion, as Stewart edged out Carl Edwards, who had a virtual tie in points with him before and during the race. Not only did Stewart win all 5 of his races in the last 10 outings, but he also passed 118 cars in the contest. Longtime great, AJ Foyt declared that Tony "drove the best race of his life"…………..

And on the west coast, David Beckham was cheerful Sunday night alongside teammate Landon Donovan, as the LA Galaxy win the MLS cup, defeating the Houston Dynamo 1-nill. Donovan scored the lone gaol in the 72nd minute, and it is the 3rd championship for the Galaxy.
