Are The Celtics Too Old

Has the Celtics time past?

The Celtics start 0-3 for the first time since 2006 after losing to the Knicks, Miami, and New Orleans. The loses to the Knicks and Miami could be easily understood considering both of these teams are loaded with all-stars, but New Orleans. The Hornets are picked to be near the bottom of the league by most. This has Boston fans scratching their heads. Is it time for a change?

Not so fast. Lets not forget that the Celtics number 1 offense weapon, Paul Pierce, is still out. I expect their offense to get the extra points it needs to get over the hump in close games like the Knicks lost on Christmas day. This doesn’t mean the Celtics don’t need to address the issue of their aging roster, but 2011-2012 is no time to panic. They will still be one of the best teams in the East.

I don’t think they are as good as they played against Miami, where their 3point shooting was incredible, but they certainly aren’t the meager team that showed up against New Orleans either. The Celtics can certainly not expect to win if their high scorer is going to be Allen with only 15 and they only go 37% from the field.

The only thing keeping Boston in most of these games so far is their amazing 3point shooting. They shot 41% against New Orleans. The adage holds up though; live by the 3, die by the 3, so the Celtics have simply been dying with it.

Yet with the return of Pierce, Boston will be a much-improved offense. The real question is if their aging legs can make it through this 62 game condensed season.
