Clippers need to Grow

Clippers have room to grow and need to in order to win big.

Lob City is what they call the LA Clippers this year. They are the most exciting team to watch and for good reason. With the acquisitions of CP3 and Billups to go alongside Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan the Clippers toss up half-court lobs like it’s an And-1 video.

Yet, Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro is the first to admit they have a lot of growing to do. This was obvious after LA got smacked down by the Spurs 115 to 90. Yes, that’s right. The old, decrepit, boring, snoring Spurs smacked the Clippers around like an MMA fighter pissed at the ice cream man for giving him the wrong change.

The Clippers clearly have one of the most loaded lineups in the NBA, but they are currently going through the growing pains Miami knows well. Throwing a bunch of all-star players together guarantees highlights, but it absolutely does not guarantee championships.

Championships take teamwork. Ask Boston’s Big 3 how they got it done. As the Mavs how they got it done. I’d say ask the Lakers, but let’s be real, that was mostly Kobe. The Clippers are young, athletic, and hungry, but they also have incredible point guard leadership on both their first and second teams with CP3 and Billups. This could be the real difference.

High-flying dunks aside, the Clippers still look a little soft on D. Yes, Jordan is a solid presence with his shot blocking capabilities, but his true position is probably more of a 4 than a 5 man. The Clippers look impressive, but vulnerable. If they want to bring the hardware to the other side of LA, they’ll have to do a lot more than a no-look pass and dunk over a Kia.
