If you’ve followed the NBA at all over the past decade you would know of Muggsy Bogues. Despite standing just 5 ft 3 inches tall (1.60m), Tyrone Curtis “Muggsy” Bogues carved out a career in the NBA for over a decade and became one of the league’s premier attractions. In what is a strange story, he’s heading all the way to Australia and it's just for a night.
Bogues will fly to Melbourne next month, specifically Melbourne’s eastern suburbs which are considered the heart of basketball in Australia, and speak to an audience in a one-off show that will focus on the trails and tribulations of his basketball career.
The 14-year NBA veteran was invited to talk in Melbourne by a basketball diehard, Ryan Sinclair, so that Bogues would be able to share the story of his unique career with in an effort to promote a budding sport.
Sinclair told a local newspaper that his idea came about when he saw how popular basketball was becoming.
"It's something I've wanted to do for a while," the 30-year-old said.
I've been in contact with Muggsy for a while. He was able to squeeze in some time to come down.
"It is going to be a lot to cover, about his growing up and his high school career and college career and on to the NBA.
"He's prepared to go pretty in depth. There are quite a lot of highs and lows he went through in his life, let alone being 5' 3" in the NBA."
Muggsy: The Tyrone Bogues Storywill be hosted by basketball commentator Steve Carfino.
