Jets’ Ryan Names Starting QB

And it might not be who you think.

The New York Jets media circus continues.

Head coach Rex Ryan officially announced his starting quarterback would be Mark Sanchez for Sunday's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The news came at the team's 8:00 AM Wednesday meeting.

There are a few reasons that fans won't be happy about the move. Not only has Sanchez been one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the league statistically, but local Floridians were already anticipating a Tim Tebow homecoming this weekend in Jacksonville. Not to mention, all of this coming after Greg McElroy — who used to be the third string quarterback — led the Jets in a come from behind win last week in which he went 5-7 passing with a touchdown.

Not only does it come down to money (Sanchez just signed a five-year, $58.5 million contract extension this past spring) but Tebow might not even suit up because of fractured ribs.

Jacksonville ranks 31st in the league with yards given up per game — 28th in passing yards given up. Therefore, this should be a gimme for Sanchez. If he somehow meanders the 5-7 Jets to another loss against this awful defense, he deserves to be yanked. It doesn't matter how much you're paying him.

The Jets' schedule at the end of the year isn't too frightening. They finish with the Titans, Chargers and Bills; all opponents the Jets could beat. All that is certain is that Ryan is living and dying with Sanchez; and as of right now, he's going down faster than the Titanic.
