Just in case you missed our article in December, here's a rundown:
Hornets owner Tom Benson wanted to change the name of the team to something that reflected the culture of New Orleans better. Options of the name change included the Brass and Krewe, both pretty cool options. The third, however, was the Pelicans. Yup. The Pelicans; about as ferocious as going up against macaroni and cheese.
Well, Benson and his organization made the official change Thursday by unveiling the new colors and logo, which you see above.
You can even already buy an assortment of merchandise on their website. All of this is incredibly weird considering we're still in the middle of the NBA season — meaning they're still technically the Hornets.

So…they're still the New Orleans Hornets; we're still in the middle of the regular season, but they want you to buy their brand as the Pelicans right now? Weird.
They also list the reasons of the name change on the Hornets.com website.

So now the New Orleans Hornets are the Pelicans, the Michael Jordan owned Charlotte Bobcats will now soon become the Charlotte Hornets again, and the Sacramento Kings are almost a sure bet to become the second Seattle Supersonics? With all these insane changes, the next thing you'll tell me is that the Los Angeles Lakers are the worst team in the conference!…..wait….
