Mitchell Starc Smashes West Indies Again

Starc combined with George Bailey as Australia took a 2-0 series lead against the West Indies.

Just days after tearing through the West Indies batting order, Mitchell Starc put on another bowling clinic to help the Australian One Day International side to a 54-run victory over the visitors in Perth on Sunday.

George Bailey was the early hero- he put an unbeaten 125 to push the Aussie total up to 266 in what was a brilliant batting display, but it was Starc who once again stole the show, taking a second straight haul of five wickets.

It wasn't as economical as his 5-20 on Friday night, but the 5-32 he registered on Sunday was just as good and gave the home side a 2-0 lead in the best of five series.

Starc made quick work of the visitor’s top order, dismissing Chris Gayle (4), Ramnaresh Sarwan (0) and Darren Bravo (14) lbw early on. He returned later to take the wicket of Kieran Powell (83), who was shouldering his side to a decent comeback, and wicketkeeper Devon Thomas for a first-ball duck.

Australia experienced a top order collapse themselves and the match could have gone the other way had Bailey not stepped in with his massive total.

After a pathetic effort Friday night, the West Indies got off to a hot start and had Australia at a very tight 6-98 before Bailey was able to make his save.

Bailey received support from the tail end. James Faulkner made 39 off 67 in his first innings with the bat for Australia while Mitchell Johnson also made a quick 16.

Bailey, eclipsing his previous ODI best at international level of 89, brought up his ton with a huge six off a Kemar Roach ball. He then went to town Dwayne Bravo, smashing 24 from five straight deliveries.

Vice-captain Shane Watson will make his international return with the Australian ODI side for the remainder of the series, replacing Usman Khawaja in the team.
