Quite the awkward moment for Doug Gottlieb and the entire CBS set in preparation for the NCAA Tournament's regional semi-finals. Gottlieb, a long-time analyst and former ESPN host, took a crack at some 'white' humor with his all African-American co-hosts Thursday night.
After being introduced by Bryant Gumbel, Gottlieb left everyone in an awkward silence, shaking their heads.
"Cream rising to the crop. I don't know why you guys asked me, I'm just here to bring diversity to the set here. Give the kind of white man's perspective on things from the point guard position," Gottlieb said.
Bryant Gumbel awkwardly looks behind him while everyone else gives an awkward chuckle. Did I mention this was awkward?
Still, it may be debatable as to whom is taking this joke too far. Did Gottlieb overstretch his boundaries as a broadcaster? Or are the public reactions overzealous themselves?
