Earlier this month, reports emerged that Frank Darabont had released all of the writers from "The Walking Dead" prior to the start of the second season. And while "Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Anne Hurd denied that story, at least one of the writers appears to have found his next job.

According to New York Magazine's Vulture Blog, Charles H. "Chic" Eglee is in negotiations with FX and Sony Pictures Television about coming on board "Powers" as writer and an executive producer. "Powers" is based upon the comic book series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming that follows a former superhero turned homicide detective as he and his partner investigate extraordinary crimes tied to the life he left behind.

The report also received quick confirmation from Bendis himself via Twitter.

"Ok, i rarely do this," wrote Bendis. "But the 'Powers' tv rumor that hit the net today... confirmed as fact!"

"Powers" has been in development at FX since at least January, 2009. At one point, former "Journeyman" writer Kevin Falls  was attached to the project.

Eglee has previously worked with FX as one of the writers for "The Shield" in addition to his other credits on "Dark Angel," "Dexter" and "Murder One."

The Vulture report also cites an unnamed member of the former "Walking Dead" writing staff who denied that they had left voluntarily.

"It's a huge hit show," stated the source. "Who would walk away from that?"

The current theory about Darabont's action is that he may attempt to write or co-write all 13 episodes next year, as Aaron Sorkin did on "The West Wing" for several years. The other notion being suggested is that the series will adopt a British TV strategy and use freelancer writers instead of a staff.

Either way, the second season of "The Walking Dead" isn't expected to stagger back on screen until October, 2011.
