The boys from "South Park" might get some new neighbors on Comedy Central.
Deadline is reporting that Comedy Central has signed ShadowMachine to create a pilot episode for a currently untitled animated comedy sketch series. Each episode of the proposed series will feature different animated shorts and "micro series" by different creators and writers in various lengths and formats, including 2D, CGI, stop motion and other animation techniques.
ShadowMachine founders Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico are executive producing the project with Tom Gianas ("Human Giant," "Saturday Night Live").
“When I was first approached about this, I thought, ‘yes, let’s do a show where the characters have a lot of energy,’ said Comedy Central's head of programming, Kent Alterman. "Then it was explained to me that it would literally be animated, and I thought, ‘even better.’”
Perhaps best known as the production company behind "Robot Chicken" and "Morel Orel," ShadowMachine currently produces "Mary Shelley's Frankenhole" and the fifth season of "Robot Chicken," which will debut early next year. New "Robot Chicken" Christmas and "Star Wars" specials will also be shown next month on Adult Swim.
Additionally, ShadowMachine is also working on a stop motion animated feature film called "Naughty or Nice" with "Robot Chicken" creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich. "Naughty or Nice" will be released through Dimension Films.
"South Park" has historically been Comedy Central's flagship animated series and the network often pairs the veteran show with newer offerings, like "Ugly Americans." However, Comedy Central has also launched original episodes of "Futurama" on Thursdays, which could mean that this new series could be shown on that night as well.
