Although Ronald D. Moore found critical success with the reimagining of "Battlestar Galactica" for Syfy, his next project may be more challenging.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Moore is in the early stages of developing a "Wild, Wild West" remake with former "CSI" executive producer Naren Shankar.

The original "Wild, Wild West" ran for four seasons back in the '60s and starred Robert Conrad as a charismatic gunslinger named James West and Ross Martin as a master of disguise named Artemus Gordon. Both men were secret service agents in the post Civil War era United States that mixed Western elements with sci-fi, spy thrillers and even steampunk.

While the original series is still fondly remembered (and it was even revived as two TV movies in the early '80s), the 1999 film remake starring Will Smith as Jim West and Kevin Kline as Artemus Gordon was not fondly received by fans of the series. Seemingly inspired by his earlier "Men In Black" film with Smith, director Barry Sonnenfeld's adaptation was considered wildly over-the-top, and memorably featured Kenneth Branagh as the legless Dr. Loveless, a mad scientist who menaced the country with a giant mechanical spider.

Prior to working on "Battlestar Galactica," Moore wrote for "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek: Voyager" before moving on to "Good vs Evil," "Roswell" and "Carnivàle." Moore is currently one of the executive producers of "Caprica," the  "Battlestar Galactica" prequel series on Syfy.
