Fox Picks Up Joe Hill's 'Locke And Key'

The network commits to a first season of the forthcoming comic book adaptation.

Last month, it was announced that legendary director Steven Spielberg and "Fringe" co-creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci had signed a deal with 20th Century Fox TV to adapt Joe Hill's "Locke & Key."  And while it was only a strong possibility at the time that the series would end up at Fox, that eventuality has been realized.

Fox has made a series commitment to "Locke & Key," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Josh Friedman ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") has been signed as the lead writer and the series will be co-produced by Dreamworks TV and K.O. Paper Products through 20th Century Fox TV.

"Locke & Key" debuted in 2008 from IDW and followed the strange adventures of the Locke children following the bizarre and brutal murder of their father. Upon relocating to a mysterious mansion in Maine, the remaining children discover strange supernatural keys that can open doors to other worlds, which ultimately puts them all in danger.

The series was created by horror novelist Joe Hill with art by Gabriel Rodriguez. The fourth "Locke & Key" comic book miniseries is currently in comic book stores.

"Locke & Key" had previously been tapped as a potential feature film franchise by Dimension before the rights ultimately went to DreamWorks TV.

While Spielberg's "Terra Nova" is already set to launch in Fall 2011, the long lead time for "Locke & Key" makes it likely to potentially debut in the same season.
