For AMC, repeat victories have become commonplace at the Emmys.
For the third year in a row, the network took the outstanding drama award for "Mad Men" while Bryan Cranston took home his third straight win as the outstanding lead actor in a drama for his brutally compelling role as Walter White, a high school teacher turned meth dealer. Cranston's "Breaking Bad" co-star Aaron Paul also earned his first Emmy for best supporting actor in a drama.
However, the biggest winner of the night was HBO, which dominated the TV film and miniseries categories. Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks' "The Pacific" won for best miniseries and "You Don't Know Jack" — a TV movie based on the life of the controversial "suicide doctor," Jack Kevorkian — took home a best lead actor award for Al Pacino and writing honors for Adam Mazer. HBO's "Temple Grandin" also received an additional five awards, including best TV movie, best director for Mike Jackson and acting nods for Claire Danes, Julia Ormond and David Strathaim.
On the network television front, freshmen comedies "Modern Family" and "Glee" were the big winners. "Modern Family" took the outstanding comedy award, along with a supporting actor win for Eric Stonestreet and writing honors for Christopher Lloyd and Stephen Levitan. Jane Lynch took the supporting actress award for her role on "Glee," which also received a direction award for Ryan Murphy and an outstanding guest star award for Neil Patrick Harris.
In the comedic lead actor awards, Jim Parsons won for "The Big Bang Theory" while Edie Falco was a surprising winner for outstanding actress. "Oh, this is the most ridiculous thing that has ever, ever happened in the history of this lovely awards show," quipped Falco as she accepted the award. "I'm not funny!" Falco has previously won three Emmy Awards for outstanding lead actress in a drama for her role on "The Sopranos."
Over in drama, Kyra Sedgwick was named outstanding lead actress for "The Closer" and Archie Panjabi was honored as the outstanding supporting actress for "The Good Wife." John Lithgow also won the award for outstanding guest actor in a drama for his enthralling turn as the Trinity killer on "Dexter."
