Allison Miller Signs on For 'Terra Nova'

Miller becomes the first actress to join the new Steven Spielberg TV series.

Although Fox's "Terra Nova" was pushed back until next year, production on the series is beginning to pick up.

Allison Miller has been cast in "Terra Nova," according to a report in Variety. Miller has previously appeared in "Cold Case," "CSI: New York," "Desperate Housewives," "Boston Legal" and "Kings." She is perhaps best known for her roles in the films "17 Again" and "Blood: The Last Vampire."

Jason O'Mara ("Life on Mars") was previously cast as the lead character, Jim Shannon, a man who flees into the prehistoric past with his wife and two children in order to save themselves and the rest of humanity from extinction in the year 2149. Unfortunately, their lives are soon threatened by several dangerous and carnivorous dinosaurs.

Miller will portray Skye, a veteran Terra Nova resident who takes Shannon's son under her wing.

"Terra Nova" was created by Craig Silverstein and Kelly Marcel and it features an impressive array of executive producers, including legendary director Steven Spielberg, David Fury ("Lost"), Brannon Braga ("24") and former Fox Chairman, Peter Chernin.

The series is expected to begin filming in October at locations throughout Australia's Queensland.

Fox is planning to preview the first episode of "Terra Nova" in late spring 2011 in order to build up momentum for the series before it joins the network's schedule. This strategy proved to be effective when Fox unveiled "Glee" in the spring of 2009 before it went on to become one last fall's biggest hits.

"Terra Nova" will materialize on Fox in the fall of 2011.
