Legendary cult actor Bruce Campbell will be getting the chance to explore the past of Sam Axe, his character on the popular USA Network series, "Burn Notice."
During the San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that USA and Fox have given the greenlight for a "Burn Notice" prequel movie starring Campbell, to be written by "Burn Notice" creator and executive producer Matt Nix.
"It's not a double episode of 'Burn Notice,' Nix told The Chicago Tribune. "It is a movie about Sam. [It explores] who he was before [the beginning of the series].
"He was always some version of the guy he is," continued Nix. "It's not like he transformed utterly. But how did he become the sort of guy who goes to Miami and drinks beers until his friend Michael [Westen] shows up and then helps people. Who was he before? He was a Navy Seal... who was actually in military intelligence. And how did he become the sort of person who doesn't follow orders?"
"It's an action movie and he's running around South America kicking ass," added Nix. "But it's also a story about his relationships with people and how a particular operation changes him into a person who can't do that anymore."
Campbell also told the Chicago Tribune that the movie takes place in Columbia and may even be shot there at a Fox stage facility. He also indicated that the film may feature the debut of Sam Axe's favorite alter-ego: Chuck Finley.
During the Comic-Con panel, it was also revealed that two fan-favorite guest stars will be going head-to-head on an upcoming episode of "Burn Notice": Tim Matheson's Larry vs. Brennen, the street arms dealer played by Jay Karnes.
The episode will air in the second half of the fourth season next winter. An air date for the "Burn Notice" prequel has not been announced, but it is expected to be filmed between the fourth and fifth seasons.
