What happens when you’re attacked by a several-hundred-pound rhino, an aggressive alligator or a vicious bull shark? Well, viewers (as well as the attacked) will find out when “Savaged with Dave Salmoni” debuts on the new Discovery World HD channel next month.
Hosted by renowned Canadian zoologist and TV personality (as well as attack survivor), Salmoni will help those who have been traumatized after being attacked by a wild animal get through their ordeal by using his expertise and conducting a forensic investigation in order to understand why people are attacked, how they can survive and how viewers themselves can avoid a similar fate.
The official press release goes on to explain that the show will allow people to “understand the animal’s point of view by exploring the world of wild animals, their instincts and behaviour, and the pressures on their species to survive in an ever-shrinking habitat. Salmoni shows the victims – and the viewer – that the animals are likely not stalking humans as prey but rather patrolling their territory, protecting their young or even suffering from starvation. Finally, he looks at how we can share our wild spaces with these animals while preventing similar near-death experiences.”
The announcement of the show comes just days after the launch of the channel Discovery World HD, which is the first of three new Discovery brands coming to Canada this season.
Salmoni, who has recently been rumoured to be dating Chelsea Handler, is also the host of Animal Planet’s “Into the Pride,” and has worked the talk-show circuit throughout his career, appearing on “The Bonnie Hunt Show,” “The Jay Leno Show,” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
“Savaged with Dave Salmoni” premiers on Wednesday, August 4th.
